About Learn to lead

Camphill Village Trust communities have always welcomed the involvement of the people we support in helping to guide their direction and development. Equality and mutual support are key factors in the way we work. Now we would like the people we support to take a much more active role in decision making in our communities. To help us make this happen we turned to Learn to lead. This is an approach of co-production in which people with disabilities become active in the everyday decisions and planning that impact on the communities they live.

Here is an Easy Read version of our Learn to Lead policy

Community based teams use Learn to lead methods and tools to co-produce projects that have a real impact over what happens in their community and across the charity.

Learn to lead follows a simple structure that create starts with a plan that all members can engage with positively.

The process put simply is based on

  • Communication - It is made fun, accessible, flexible and highly visual – involving all in creating the ideas and solutions the contribute to positive outcomes.
  • Roles and Responsibilities – People are encouraged to take ownership for what they do. This level of responsibility is achieved through being creative in developing individual roles and contributions.
  • Celebration – Groups do not work in isolation, through regional forums people are encouraged to share and celebrate their achievements.
  • New Ideas – CVT is developing Learn to lead in new areas. This includes the co-production of the CVT CONNECT APP by the GOT IT team.
