What Do We Offer Adults with Learning Disabilities?

Grange Village Location

The Grange Village is a rural community, situated in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, close to Newnham Village.

The Grange Village is home to adults with learning disabilities and other support needs, and they live within our eight houses. We’re proud to host lots of events within our community, from common lunches, village gatherings, and film nights to cultural celebrations.

Our community boasts a plentiful garden at the centre with houses and workshops surrounding it. Everything is accessible and within easy reach, and we strongly emphasise living as a community.

Support on Offer

We support adults with a learning disability and Autism. The people we support have varying support needs; this consists of:

  • Support with budgeting.
  • Daily living skills.
  • To be as independent as possible.

We have strong links with day opportunities and co-production supporting people to access crafts and the social farm and gardens.

Across the Gloucestershire communities we have a mixture of shared accommodation and single person accommodation. All the accommodation is supported living.

Workshops and Activities

We also offer day opportunities, and these are available to people we support and those in the local community. They allow people to engage in meaningful activities which promote development and independence.

Find out more here. If you’re interested in attending one of our day opportunities or activities, please contact us.

Grange Village day opportunities consist of:

  • Pottery.
  • Bakery.
  • Food production.
  • Social garden.

About our Pottery Studio

We provide opportunities for the people we support to be involved with making of our pottery, or other parts of pottery processes. For example, the recycling of clay and placing it through the pugging machine so it is ready to use again.

Our work is mainly functional tableware made using a jigger and jolly machine. We also create some more bespoke pieces by hand building with slabs and also wheel thrown pieces. All are fired to stoneware in a variety of our own glazes mixed in the workshop.

Everyone takes genuine pride in producing articles that others want to purchase and use in their day to day lives.

Most of our pottery attendees have been involved in making and/or painting with glaze our ceramic flowers which is a new product for us this year. They are so individual and colourful! We have then glued them onto recycled wire from coat hangers and bucket handles and such items.

These have been a great hit and we have sold probably a few hundred both at St Helens Garden festival and whilst partaking in Far Open Studios. These will brighten up homes or gardens all year around.

The Studio is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm. Our products are available on our shop online.

About our Crow’s Nest Kitchen

The Crow’s Nest Kitchen is at the heart of the community and run by our workshop leads with the people we support producing food for the in-house café through a day opportunity activity. The aim of this activity is to provide skills-based training and to support with development of life skills..

Once a month we do a breakfast club which allows everyone to come together for a breakfast and social gathering.

The people we support prepare and cook the food ready for service, including preparation, cooking and serving of the food as well as all cleaning and clearing of the kitchen and café area.

We promote healthy eating, most of the food is sourced from our community garden. Community members are involved in the full cycle, from planting to pick and them cooking the products we grow.

Volunteering at Grange Village

Grange Village Social Garden provides therapeutic horticultural activity and purposeful activity for placements from the wider community and those who live within our Camphill Village Trust communities. We welcome volunteers to help with day-to-day maintenance and gardening tasks to help with keeping the gardens tidy and productive.

Volunteers are also welcomed to support those with learning and other disabilities who attend the garden workshops. To find out more, contact clare.bond@cvt.org.uk.
