The vegetarian breakfast was made using only produce from the gardens, and the staff team of Cecilia and Jenny had gone to great lengths to stoke up the log burner and make fresh smoothies, apple pastries, muffins and frittatas to make everyone feel welcome.
Over twenty people attended the Breakfast Club and included amongst others; Job Centre Plus, who spoke about various new initiatives and the changing role of the service in becoming more community focused and signposting people to wider resources, John Mansell, aka, ex-boozehound who shared the date for the launch of his 2day2gether project, more info at: http://www.2day2gether.co.uk/ and CVT Shared Lives who shared their excitement at taking over the Dudley Scheme and delivering an innovative service across the whole of the Borough. CVT Shared Lives are continuing to recruit new Carers to their ever expanding scheme; more information can be found at: www.cvt.org.uk/sharedlives
Ashfield Gardens provides day opportunities for people with additional needs, who are supported to take part in horticulture, arts & crafts, animal husbandry and pottery. There is also a bank of long-standing volunteers who support the person to participate in all of the tasks whilst maintaining the allotment. If people are interested in volunteering or making a referral, then they should contact Cecilia on 07872 990152.
CVT Shared Lives are hoping to arrange one more Breakfast Club by the end of the year, in early December, so keep an eye out on the Eventbrite website.
