The 19th of September is International Talk Like a Pirate Day and across the morning sightings were made of pirates in the houses and workshops of Larchfield then, at twelve noon they began to gather in the hall for a pirate themed community lunch.

New Life on the Farm

The summer calving at Larchfield has been a success! Eight of our cows have given birth to some beautiful calves giving us four boys and four girls.

The Independence Poem

An independent advocacy service is available to community members and day placements at Larchfield with the advocate coming every three weeks for individual and group sessions. The advocacy is provided by Your Voice Counts in Gateshead. The group have been studying the 'Independence Poem' adapted by the Changing Faces Drama Group from the poem 'Leisure' by William Henry Davies.  The poem means a great deal to the Larchfield group and it has been performed to great effect to an audience of parents and carers. They would like to share it by putting it on the community website.

Rosalyn Green - Special Olympics Medallist 2017

Rosalyn Green is a day placement at Larchfield and, as if being busy in the craft, café and farm workshops isn't enough Rosalyn is also a short mat carpet bowler competing at the highest level. She recently competed in the Special Olympics GB National Games held in Sheffield from the 7th - 12th of August and returned triumphant with silver medals in the individual and pairs competitions. Rosalyn brought her medals and uniform in to show us and gave us a fantastic interview.

Craft Work to be Exhibited at Kirkleatham Museum

Earlier in the year the members of the Larchfield Craft Workshop were invited to submit a piece of work for an exhibition at Kirkleatham Museum in Redcar. The exhibition will be called 'Artefacts' and will feature craft and artworks which have had therapeutic benefits during the creative process.
