Kath has been with KP Foods for 42 years and is a trainer for the company, she helps employees work towards their Health and Safety and Food Hygiene qualifications as well as being involved with induction training.
Volunteering under the 'Community Hero Scheme' can be done as an individual or as part of a team and KP have a prize draw where the names of individual volunteers and the team volunteers are entered with a chance of winning one of the two £500 prizes to give to the charity or community where the voluntary work has been undertaken.
Kath chose to spend her voluntary day here at Larchfield Community working in the bakery. Kath's awareness of Larchfield came about when her husband Martin started working in one of the residential houses on site and she has since become a regular visitor, joining in with some of the social events.
During the morning Kath helped to make pizza and pork pies and she also chopped vegetables and washed dishes all the while working alongside the Community Members and Day Placements who produce the baked goods for the café and shop as well as the hot lunch for the café. In the afternoon Kath helped with the making and baking of a large quantity of biscuits for the shop.

Part of Kath's own job is to help others develop their skills and confidence and she could see this happening in the Larchfield bakery where everything runs like clockwork under bakery supervisor Val's watchful eye and where those supported are completely involved in every aspect of the bakery's day.
Kath said how welcome she had been made and is so pleased to be able to give some of her time to a charity she has become very familiar with.
