On the 21st of April, the Skelton and Cleveland team met at 8am in Guisborough to get on the coach that Keith Wilcox had hired to take them to the Yorkshire and Humberside Bowling Club in York for a national competition. They arrived between nine and ten and after an opening ceremony the different divisions soon got down to playing their matches.
Rosalyn said that she had a good playing day and won a gold medal in division seven for winning three matches in a row. Asking Rosalyn how she felt about this success she said ' I was totally amazed!'
The competition finished at about 4 o'clock and they all got back on the coach for the journey home. Some other members of the team had also won medals and everyone was happy at the end of a very long day. When Rosalyn went through her front door she called out, ' Here comes a gold medal winner!', her mum said 'What?' and Rosalyn said 'Yes, its's true!'
Just last week on the 5th of May Rosalyn was in action again at the Redcar Bowling Club where she won a bronze medal. Her next big bowling event will be in August when she will be going to Stirling in Scotland for an England versus Scotland match.
Rosalyn has some advice for anyone who is thinking about taking up bowling as a hobby, 'Start by getting some lessons, you can ask at your local bowling club. When you bowl you make friends, get support from the other players, the coaches help you with your technique, you keep fit and sometimes you get to travel. It is also important to bend with your knees if you are using heavy woods (woods are the proper name for the bowling balls).'
Congratulations Rosalyn - you are a star!
