All of the cows gave birth to their calves on their own without any assistance and they were very secretive about it too; we missed the birth of one calf by just five minutes. In the picture below a female calf, only an hour old, is already standing and looking for some milk. The farm team have worked hard to make sure that all of our calves have the best start in life. We have had to bring some of the mothers in to be milked and have helped a few of the calves to get their first milk and teach them how to drink by themselves. Our new arrivals have been enjoying the sunshine on the farm, spending time with their mothers, making new playmates, growing up together and allowing plenty of time for sleep!
Our last piece of news is that two of the winter bull calves have gone to Botton Community to start their new lives as breeding bulls. They have a lot of growing to do as yet but hopefully they will turn out to be as good as their Dad Elvis and with his lovely nature.
