Get Active Day

When planning for the regional forum members of the Delrow Learn to lead group decided that they would like to have a go at some new activities that are fun and healthy.

The ‘Get Active’ theme involved inviting local sports coaches to come and run taster sessions in cricket, football, badminton and boccia.  In addition to the sports the planning group said they wanted to keep a healthy theme through promoting healthy food choices at lunchtime and a smoothie bar run by Gemma.

The weather was hot so it was decided that the morning sessions would be outside and first up was football and cricket. It was great to get everyone involved including some people who had not played the sports before. Imogen was a star with the cricket ball in hand ‘I knew how to bowl as I have watched it  on TV’. Martin said he used to like playing football when at school but had not had a go for many years.

After the morning events, Gemma opened up the smoothie bar, serving up over 70 drinks based on her favourite healthy recipes.   Gemma plans to share her smoothie flavours with others on CVT CONNECT so others can have a go at making them.

In the afternoon we moved to the hall. The badminton proved popular and after a few minutes coaching the games started. Esther proved to be a natural and was delighted to be part of the winning team! The Boccia was a seated game and provided an opportunity for everyone to have a go. Ruth who had travelled with her friends from St Albans was keen to have a go at this sport that she had played and enjoyed before.

The day finished with friends from Delrow and St Albans together chatting about having a survey to see what other activities and sports people would like to do.

It certainly seems like people from Delrow and St Albans want to continue having fun and being active!
