Reporter Michele Paduano, interviewed Shared Lives Carers, Linda and Jim Corbett in their home along with the two gentlemen they support. It was a great way to demonstrate how the Shared Lives model can provide person-centred care whilst enabling people with additional needs to lead ordinary lives at the heart of the local community, just like you and I. The whole family are season ticket holders with Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, so every weekend they travel up and down the country to watch their beloved team…well somebody has to!!! Linda and Jim spoke proudly of their commitment to the role as Shared Lives Carers and of the ability to provide a family environment where people were encouraged and given opportunity to realise their full life potential.
The second part of the film featured Cllr Nic Barlow being interviewed and responding to questions as to why the in-house scheme was externalised. He eloquently stated that CVT Shared Lives were experts in the field and therefore had the experience to grow the new scheme as Dudley Council envisage, by offering Shared Lives Arrangements to a wider variety of people with more complex support needs. CVT Registered Manager, Kate Morgan, was filmed showing the councillor around our new offices at Eagle House in Stourbridge.
Huw John, CEO added ‘“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Dudley Council and the launch of our CVT Shared Lives Scheme signifies an important investment for our charity in the region. Combined with our existing resources in Stourbridge, we will be able to provide more opportunities for people to be supported in the local community whilst enabling the quality life they deserve.”
The Scheme which is now one of the largest in the Black Country, let alone helping add to the BCP Community, currently supports nearly 40 Arrangements (people) who are supported by 36 Shared Lives households. This will expand very quickly as there are already a significant number of referrals waiting and three new staff will be joining the Scheme over the coming weeks.
