This year we have had both new and old volunteers join our community including Harriet who has been volunteering in our Gift Shop and has learned many new skills such as; customer interaction, using the till, merchandising and pricing stock. Jenny has also come back to volunteer and has helped us to design the planting scheme for our pots, looked after the poly tunnels, and netted Christmas trees for customers. This year we have seen new friendships develop here at Taurus Crafts and Jim and Simon our chef are prime examples of this. “They make a great team and are a great asset to have working in the café as we know they always deliver great food to our customers and staff members”. Wendy, Centre Manager.
The people we support have continued their involvement in the wider community and this has included fundraising for Cancer Research, volunteering at local organisations and they have also represented us at large community events such as the Forest Showcase. “Reflecting back on the year it is fantastic to think about everything that the people we support have done and we look forward to our exciting plans for the new year” Wendy, Centre Manager.
The highlight of the year for our community has been the regional forum where we have had the people we support involved in the preparations for the forum as well as undertaking tours of our site, leading activities and cooking for our fellow community members. The most enjoyable part of the forum for people we support and volunteers was the opportunity to continue friendships that they have developed with community members from across our region.
